"I am intrinsically attracted to the essence of culture, which for me is represented in forms that are the building blocks of a cultural heritage. My work involves condensing forms and patterns in an abstract way to create a language that expresses a visual cultural code. The Caribbean is a mixture of many cultures that is often difficult to define and distinguish, and represented a new beginning for the indigenous cultures that inhabited it, beginning with the Neo-Indians, and later European and African influences. Because of this mixture of core elements, I am looking to create a language and code, to work through what is unclear and indecisive, and to put my mark on what culturally condensed elements of culture are.”
